Mr. Max Müller to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received April 22.)

BURMAH frontier.
Peking, April 22, 1910.
With reference to my telegram No. 61 of the 1st April, I have received the following telegram despatched by courier on the 16th April by His Majesty's consul at Tongyueh:-
"As Chinese authorities have closed all my sources of information, I have left my heavy baggage and escort in Chinese territory and advanced alone to Pienma village, which was occupied by a score of Chinese soldiers. The latter retreated on my entering village. My estimate of the total losses amounts to about 2,500 rupees. The facts of the raid reported in my despatch of the 24th February are supported by the evidence of the natives and neighbouring chiefs, who accorded me a friendly reception. I shall proceed to Tengyueh as soon as possible via Tengkeng. The passes are closed in consequence of heavy storms.
